Rabbi Greg Hershberg
Born in the Bronx section of New York City in 1959, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was President, the L.A. Dodgers won the World Series, Ben Hur won a record 11 academy awards, and everyone loved Lucy.
I grew up in a low income housing project where although we struggled financially, we were rich in so many other ways. I had two hard working, loving parents as well as three sisters, myself being the youngest. As a child on Shabbat, we attended an Orthodox Jewish Synagogue called Anshe Amet (People of Truth). I learned the tenets of Judaism and understood my religious persuasion well. At thirteen I was Bar Mitzvahed, and sadly enough we began to stray from attending synagogue.
Two years later, my father who was a protector to me, died. To find security, I found myself seeking fame and fortune in the world. I began my career at an international accounting/consulting firm in Manhattan and climbed the ladder of success, begging the question, “Is this all there is to life?”
In September 1989 I married and was off to Israel to honeymoon. It was on the Transfiguration Mount in the Galilee region of Israel where I saw a vision of the Messiah and heard his voice as well. I never ever looked back and I have been walking hard with the Lord ever since. Amazing that Yeshua (Jesus) who I thought was the leader of Christianity would lead me back to Torah, Shabbat, the Feasts of the Lord and “true” Biblical Judaism!
I guess you could call me a “one thing” person. In John 9:25, the blind boy exclaimed, “One thing I do know, I was blind, now I see.” In Philippians 3:13, Shaul (Paul) states, “One thing I do, forgetting what is behind me and straining forward toward what lies ahead.” In Psalm 27:4, King David says, “Just one thing I asked of the Lord; only this will I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to see the beauty of the Lord and visit in His temple.” In a nutshell, this is who I am–a one thing person.
So who is Greg Hershberg? Bottom line, I am a nobody telling everybody about a somebody who can change anybody!
